At Finlay’s Place you can pick your own fruit fresh from the field - strawberries, raspberries,

gooseberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants.

There is so much to be gained from picking fresh fruits and many of us have happy childhood memories of doing just that. It is a wonderful way for children to get some fresh air whilst learning and having fun – and there’s a tasty treat at the end. 500 g punnets are provided into which you can pick the produce or you can bring your own containers. We have the following fruit available for picking starting in June and throughout the summer months and into autumn. Strawberries - Elsanta variety produces bright red, large glossy strawberries that are very tasty and nicely aromatic. Blackcurrants - For a delicious taste of British summertime that's full of healthy benefits and purple goodness, look no further than our home-grown, number one superfruit, blackcurrants. Varieties include Ben Sarek, Ben Connan and Ebony which is the sweetest blackcurrant ever! This outstanding dessert variety is so exceptionally sweet that it can be eaten straight from the bush when fully ripe. Blackcurrants have a high concentration of: anthocyanins polyphenolic substances antioxidants vitamin C - blackcurrants carry four times the amount of vitamin C as oranges, and double the amount of antioxidants as blueberries. The benefits of vitamin C are many. The body uses vitamin C to metabolize protein and form collagen, which is essential for skin care and anti-aging. gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) Many health foods and drinks use these berries. Their tartness also lends itself to mixing with other fruits, especially in jams and juices. Raspberries - Glen Ample is a high yielding mid-season variety that produces large berries with good flavour and colour. Gooseberries - Invicta variety. A vigorous, spreading bush with large, pale green berries which are good for both culinary and dessert use. Redcurrants - Jonkheer van Tets variety. Bright coloured, redcurrants have a healthy amount of important antioxidants, known as anthocyanins.
